They don’t sing anymore. They talk, and they talk fast”
I am sure your grandmother
or grandfather would say the
words above if s/he were to
have another chance of visiting
the living. If they were to ask
me about what we call music in today’s
world, I would tell them the
following:
“Today’s music is troubling. There
is even a thin line between noise
and singing. These young people
have become so successful celebrities
through talking.
They masquerade
in the mask of musicians
whilst they simply talk. I think they
are just talkative. They even talk
so fast. In fact, they talk faster than
horse racing commentators. They
say they are musicians.
When these young people sing,
they do so in talks that have no
melody. In their songs, there is neither
baritone nor soprano. Their
music also has neither bass nor
tenor. They just talk and talk fast.
Perhaps the world is about to come
to an end.
These young people that sing just
talk. They can’t play any instrument
or even sing. They just talk and talk
fast. They don’t make me sad or
happy. I am sure my affective realm
is not numb, for I know how talking
differs from singing”.
Then our grandparents would
say, “let us go back to our world of
tranquil, for our children are now
phantoms. They have lost the muse
and they talk in discord too”
