“Driven to lend a helping hand”

THE MVA FUND ENGAGES THE COMMUNITY
ALL OVER THE COUNTRY
by Nampa

As we all know, the theme for The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund is “Driven to lend a helping hand”. It was established in 1990 and it’s growing slowly but surely. The fund provides for compensation for certain loss or damage caused unlawfully by means of motor vehicles and for matters incidental thereto, it’s not limited to funding but makes provision of facilities and issues of Road Safety Issues. Most of the Namibian citizens do not know this and other MVA fund fact, which is why they came up with the community engagement last year.

According to Ruben Uupindi who is responsible for the campaign, the MVA fund team went to different regions all over the country, like Hardap, Kunene and Otjozondjupa Region. They held different meetings with steak holders (traditional leaders, head of Ministry Departments, as well as NGO’s), Hospital staff and Police Officers. To attract the public, they held music and drama shows and also had outside radio broadcasting with the NBC, the broadcasts were done in different languages suiting the different towns. This was done as the youth mostly attend places were there is entertainment.

The MVA Fund was the first institute to have brought radio to remote areas like Tsumkwe. Other remote areas they went to were Gam and Western Caprivi. “ Since the nation was hungry for information about the fund, information is also held at different post offices in Namibia as Nampost is also involved since 2005. The fund has two offices, one in Windhoek and the other in Ongwediva. This was successful and it was an eye opener to the rural areas. The number of people that attended the activity is about 15 000 and as they go to different areas the number grows.

The fund wishes to express their gratitude as they were received well in all the communities, they are glad to have spread the word and would like to intensify in 2008 and take it to another level. A survey was being done as from the 3rd of February to the 24th of February for feedback for all services, knowledge and awareness as well as customer service from Nampost , whereas, if they were available.
