Telecom Namibia offers ADSL,
an ‘always on’
Internet connection

Telecom Namibia is offering customers in some towns ADSL, or asymmetric digital subscriber lines. ADSL is a high speed line with the ability to provide regular phone service and Internet, fax, data or video at the same time.
“ADSL is ‘always on,’ in terms of being connected to the Internet. There is no logging on and off with ADSL,” said Amanda Hauuanga, Telecom Namibia’s General Manager for Marketing and Sales.
Hauuanga emphasised that all Telecom Namibia customers with an existing copper line can now apply for ADSL. She also encouraged new customers to apply. “Telecom Namibia has comparative broadband technologies already in the market,” she explained.

High speeds
ADSL is an advanced broadband technology, offering speeds of over 50 times faster than 28.8 Kbps modems and over 30 times faster than the 56 Kbps modems.
ADSL is a new modem technology that converts existing telephone lines into paths that can carry multimedia and high speed data communications, similar to broadband services.
The services are available in most urban and suburban areas as well as in several rural areas at speeds that range from 256Kbps to 2.048Mbps. Towns with ADSL services are Windhoek, Okahandja, Walvis Bay (only Walvis Bay CBD,

Lagoon & Meersig areas), Swakopmund, Gobabis, Tsumeb, Otavi, Grootfontein, Oshakati, Ongwediva, Eehnana, Oluno, Ombalantu/Outapi, Ondangua, Opuuo, Oshikango,Rosh Pinah, Katima Mulilo
and Lüderitz

Bundled packages
Telecom Namibia offers both bundled ADSL Home and bundled ADSL Business packages to customers.
The bundled home ADSL offerings: a DSL256 service with a 1GB usage limit for N$349.00, a DSL384 offering with a 2GB cap for N$549.00, a DSL512 with a 3GB limit for N$699.00 and a DSL1024 product with a 5GB usage limit for
N$1 099.00.
The bundled business ADSL offerings: a DSL384 service with a 2GB usage limit for N$549.00, a DSL512 offering with a 3GB cap for N$699.00, a DSL1024 with a 5GB limit for N$1 099.00.00 and a DSL2048 product with a 10GB usage limit for N$2 099.00. These prices are VAT excluding.
The above ADSL broadband products from Telecom Namibia represent an aggressive approach to broadband pricing and service offerings seen in a local context.
Since ADSL offers such an attractive package with the latest technology, it is an ideal choice for home and individual users who have a very high use of the Internet. It is important to note that the service eliminates delays and disconnections that were often experienced by dial-up connection users.

User experiences
As Olga Katjiuongua of NACOBTA explains: “It’s a very cost effective method of communication.  We used to run high bills in the past especially on the internet, but with ADSL, at least we do not have to pay for the use of the internet as long as we stay within our limits.”
Another ADSL user, Nsengi Kaviro, also expressed his delight about ADSL as follows: “I’ve to say that I’m proud of Telecom Namibia for its services and more especially for ADSL product that makes me always connected to the entire world!”
And Dr Kagiso Moloi of Windhoek has the following to say about ADSL: “I applied for ADSL in August 2007. It is the fastest system I have ever seen; it’s better than ISDN I have been using for the past years. The fastness and readily available connection system is what I like about it the most and I use it for both personal and business purposes.

Dr Moloi concludes: “I would therefore advise others to get in touch with Telecom Namibia to acquire this life changing system.”

With Telecom’s multi-million investments in ADSL technology, more customers can use faster, broadband connections to explore business opportunities, connect with others, learn and expand their horizons - all on a dedicated, unshared access from your computer to Telecom Namibia’s network, which provides consistent speed and does not tie up your phone line.
